About the Systemic Provider Training for Queer Youth Clients (SPTQYC) Program

A program designed for mental health practitioners seeking to deepen and specialize in their work with queer youth and their families.

A groundbreaking program that helps mental health clinicians move towards queer-affirming systemic practices, offering a deeper approach to care that centers queer experience while honoring everyone in the system.

DFI is dedicated to training our students and clinicians to become skilled and compassionate family & intimate relationship therapists. We have committed our work to possess a social-justice lens, acknowledging that many systems, including therapy, have been constructed and taught without the input of women & minorities, including queer people.

To fill in this gap, we have launched the "Systemic Provider Training for Queer Youth Clients" (SPTQYC), the first program of its kind to expand beyond existing best practices.

The program (created by a majority of queer clinicians, bios below) is an advanced training program that is 100% virtual and offers a 20-week cohort (done twice a year), with a mix of synchronous and asynchronous classes. Participants can choose a non-clinical track or a clinical track (which includes Group Supervision and a Capstone presentation). A la carte classes are also available.

The program will help clinicians and youth-serving professionals move from
being well-intentioned
to being well-informed, and improve their work with queer youth and their families.
